Design Anxiety

This is the jewelry I made, she picked the drop pendant on the silver chain, the Vintaj necklace with the ring. Pearl drop vintaj and silver earring and the faceted light yellow drop earring. I am sure that all artists have had it at least once. I think custom work is the hardest to work through. Worrying if the piece will be the right color or style. We all have that design or idea that sits in our minds trying to make it' way to our finish product. That is frustrating but in a different way than custom work. What we the artist see is usually always much different than what the customer has asked for. Then there is making an gift for a person, working from what you know of that person. What we see as a persons style may not be what they see as their style. I experienced this a couple of weeks ago while making a birthday present for an old friend. Shira and I have been friends for the better part of our lives. We are very different but we have a connection and kn...

Madison Horse Fair Trip

Image
Sunday my friend Kim and I headed up to Madison to go to the horse fair . The weather this weekend has been very cold, we had snow on Saturday but Sunday was a bit warmer. We went up last year together and decided to make this a girl outing every year. Both of us have been saving money for this trip all year. Last year I was surprised to even find a guy selling strands of beads :) I love it when my interests overlap lol. I have been on the look out for a pair of Cheeks, they are kind of like chaps but shorter and with fringe. I was happy to find a great tent outside where they hand made chaps and cheeks. There where a really cool pair of hand made half chaps that I got to wear around for a couple of hours to try out but in the end I got the cheeks. They fit like a glove and keep you really warm. I have no excuse not to ride now lol. I found a cute pair of white boot for Willow at a great price too. Some of my other purchases where, brushes, lead ropes, a great green rope halte...

A Day in Madison

Yesterday I went to Madison with the Bead Diva's of Galena- Jess, Trish and Jan. We started out at Anthology on State Street. Lucky me had won a 20$ gift certificate to this cute store. The store is the cutest thing ever. So many wonderful thing, great t-shirt, aprons, paper, books, jewelry and buttons just to mention a few. I had really thought that I was going to get a t-shirt but the books got me. I found two books that I had been wanting for a long time. A Compendium of Curiosities by Tim Holtz and Sewing Clothes kids Love very very cute kits clothes and this book comes with the patterns too. I can't wait to sit down with these books this week. We could have spent the day on State Street with no problem but we had other places to go lol. A nice lunch at Cosi and then on to Anthropologie This store is so inspirational we walked away with so many great ideas. Look for alot of refashioned clothes in the future. Then on to the Madison Bead Show Just being aroun...

June Already!

I just realized it has been over two weeks since my last update. We have been planting the garden and doing YARD work here on the farm. I also was able to spend some time with a great old friend from boarding school,, yes I went to a Quaker Boarding school lol. Here is a link if you would like to take a look Olney Friends School . We reconnected on face book about a year ago and have picked up right where we left off lol. She was on a road trip from Tucson to Cleveland and took a detour to spend a week with us on the farm. While Carol was here she got me hooked on Genealogy and I just can't stop lol. The wonderful thing is we never really had any information past two generations. After starting this I have been able to go back as far as the 1200's in one line It's really interesting, but is taking much of my free time and more :) I have been doing the farmers market and I am very pleased by the out come. Carol came down to the market last Saturday and took this picture. I a...

Girl Friends and Chick Flicks

This weekend a couple of friends and I went to Dubuque. It is our big city :), There is a Starbucks, Borders and Target lol. It is about 40 miles to Dubuque so we don't go that often. This outing had been planned for over 2 months, due to family and work we could never find a day that worked for all of us. We left the kids at home and ventured out about noon. I even put on makeup lol. All of us had lists of things we needed to get so off to the stores we went. It was stange and wonderful to be able to brouse the racks of clothes and try a couple of things on. After that we got some lunch. It was still early and this doesn't happen all the time we wanted it to last. The movie Theater was in the area, we checked out the times. Mama Mia was play shortly. This was on the list of movies to see from a while back. So we went. It was wonderful, so funny you laugh out loud. I don't know why it got such bad reveiws. Meryl Streep is great!! the whole cast is delightful...
